Lowther Loudspeakers introduces its first all-new speaker in 30 years - The Almira.

June 2022, Northampton, UK: Lowther Loudspeakers, the well-known British speaker manufacturer, has announced its first brand-new speaker design in almost 30 years - the Almira. Following on from its revered Heritage Collection, Almira is a modern twist on a classic, preserving the clarity and scale of larger Lowther speaker cabinets, but with a more compact footprint.

Long regarded as one of the top British hi-fi designers of all time, Lowther Loudspeakers was born out of a collaboration between Engineer Paul Voigt and O.P. Lowther collaborated on their first project, the Lowther-Voigt Radio, producing a range of high-end radiograms, amplifiers, tuners and loudspeakers offering many different adaptations for home use including custom cabinets.

Beautifully unique, the Almira has been meticulously designed to present equally as well in smaller rooms as they do in larger spaces. The Almira is a 2.3m single folded quarter-wave generic Voigt horn with a floor-facing exit based on the quarter-wave Voigt horn with a floor-facing exit.

Although designed with Voigt's original principles in mind, the Almira is a slight departure from the Lowther heritage design with the addition of a handmade super tweeter, together with an Almira-specific phase compensation board. The Almiras are designed with Lowther’s DX3 drive units and are notably comparable in efficiency and scale of the soundstage with larger heritage cabinets, like the TP2.

“The Almira is the first new speaker Lowther has designed in over 30 years," says Managing Director, Martin Thornton. "We wanted to make a statement that Lowther is back whilst acknowledging and embracing our heritage. We believe horn-loaded loudspeakers present the highest level of musical reproduction and with Almira, we are addressing the challenges of modern digital re-production without sacrificing the traditional Lowther values.”

All Lowther Loudspeakers are handmade to order in Great Britain and sold in numbered pairs. Users can choose from a wide selection of matched veneer sets including the stylish limited edition Rosewood.

The Almira can also be specified with or without top cover grilles and come with levelling screw feet, which are removable for carpet standing.

The outside dimensions: Height: 1200mm,  Width: 300mm, Depth: 330mm

Almira speaker pairs are priced from £12,000 and are available from the Lowther Loudspeaker website.

Lowther Loudspeakers will be showcasing the Almira at the North West Audio Show, 18th-19th June 2022, with demonstrations in the Young Suite.

About Lowther Loudspeakers

In 1934, Paul Voigt released the Domestic Corner Horn, a horn-loaded speaker that would go on to shape audio experiences for generations to come - a pivotal moment in the history of British speakers. Voigt’s horn-loaded speaker changed sound reproduction forever, as a new standard of quality was reached. The bar was set. In the same year, Paul Voigt met O.P. Lowther and this would be the start of a friendship that would leave its mark on the audio industry’s history forever.

Since that very first day, almost 90 years ago, Lowther Loudspeakers has developed countless speaker cabinets, created a community of passionate audiophile DIYers, and paved the way for speaker companies around the world.

You’ll find Lowther’s signature horn-loaded speakers at home in Canada, China, Germany, the United States and countless other exotic locations across the globe, as well as its home, the United Kingdom.

From the 1930s to the 2020s a lot has changed. But Lowther's pursuit of perfection hasn’t.
